Gelatin plays an essential role in each stage of the
photographic process. It serves as a colloidal support
for the silver halide crystals and today allows the production
of photographic emulsions of very high sensitivity. Its
use in this application goes back more than a century.
Today, gelatin is found in industrial applications( photo-sensitised
material for radiography , cinematography, graphic arts,
holography and professional photography) as well as in
amateur phographic film and paper products. Gelatin also
has applications in high-quality printing paper for ink-jet
